Snow
2021-12-18
You stop walking briefly to check your watch. It's still stuck at 6:00 PM, just like the past three times you checked. 'It's okay,' you think to yourself as you start walking again. Time seems almost irrelevant here anyway.
You glance over your shoulder, and observe the trail of footsteps you left in the snow, stretching back to the horizon. It's the only feature in this flat, wintry landscape; the sole sign of life.
You don't know how you got here, or where you are, or how long you've been here. However, you're not worried. For once, any anxious thoughts seem to be gone. Walking through the snowy expanse, you're at peace.
Your thoughts aren't racing, unlike before. It's not that you aren't thinking thoughts, they just come and go slowly, fading in and out, like gentle clouds. Sometimes the thoughts are so faded it's hard to tell what you're thinking about, but it does not bother you. The thoughts are calming and harmless. You're at peace.
Your eyes aren't strained now, unlike before. It's dark. There are no lights, but the snow under your feet glows softly. Its warm aura brings a welcome contrast to the cold environment you're in. It's not particularly uncomfortable cold, though--It's reminiscent of a freezer. Everything is still. It seems like you're the only moving object in a frozen world- literally and figuratively.
Everything is silent, unlike before. It feels as if every person on earth is in a deep, calm sleep... that is, if anyone even exists at all. The only sound you've heard so far has been from your boots landing softly in the snow each time you take a step.
You don't feel any pain or tiredness from walking, unlike before. You feel no need to stop and or take a break, which feels surreal. Almost seems like you could go on for hours.
Why not? Nothing is stopping you. Heck, nothing even seems to exist right now. Maybe you could just walk forever.
